Gatwick Airport is situated to the South of London,
actually in West Sussex some 28 miles travel from central London,
and is served by the M23 (junction 9) and M25 motorways and the
A23 dual carriageway. There is also a direct train service from
London Victoria station called the Gatwick express as well another
service (Thameslink) that uses the same line but stops along the
way. There are two terminals, North and South, linked by a mono
rail service which is free of charge to use. Each terminal has a
taxi rank.
Gatwick is not only the second largest airport in London but
the second largest in the UK as a whole (after Heathrow). For a
single runway airport Gatwick is actually the world's busiest international
airport and 7th busiest overall. Over 90 airlines operate flights
out of the airport and travel to over 200 international destinations.
Unlike Heathrow where most of the major hotels are located on a
single road, Gatwick Hotels are a little more scattered out around
the terminals and surrounding area.
