Location –
London’s second airport is located midway between Horley in Surrey
and Crawley in West Sussex. The exact distance from south of London is 25
miles. The airport can also be approached from Brighton.
Know your Airport - Gatwick is the most
engaged single-runway airport in the world. Recent numbers suggest that
it handled over 32.6 million passengers in 2005 alone. Airplanes flew to
more than 190 destinations from this airport. Flights to and from the USA
use Gatwick because of restrictions on transatlantic operations from the
already overburdened Heathrow airport. The airport is also a secondary hub
for British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Gatwick airport
is owned by BAA (British Airports Authority) plc.

Terminals
– Two terminals are situated in North and South.
Transit systems – Automatic transit system (monorail)
connects both the terminals.
Inside the terminals – Check-in area with different
check-in zones (A, B, C etc.) having large display monitors and television
screens to indicate arrival and departure. NO FLIGHT CALLS.
Safety - Check-in desks, security control at gates.
Highly advanced security checks are employed so that no one or nothing
passes through the airport without authorization. Boarding cards are
bar-coded to ensure maximum passenger safety.
Business facilities – Lounge facilities are available
for the business traveler. There are internet access points to update
data and receive feedbacks from your office.
Family interests – There are many good restaurants
and bars in the airport. The South Terminal has Pizza Express, McDonalds,
WH Smiths, Boots and a Hilton hotel. Special attention is given to
children. Many stores are available which cater to the needs of children.
Special changing and feeding rooms are also available. Both terminals
at Gatwick have playing areas suitable for children aged two to six.
Arcade entertainment including ice hockey, table football and computer
games are also close at hand. Panoramic views of the runway and planes
can be seen at the Pier 6 at Gatwick North. The Aqua Bar at Gatwick
North has some great viewing locations. The Gatwick family lounge
is a wonderful hang-out for tired parents, who want to keep their
children occupied. |

A special needs
service is open for all the passengers who require assistance
in planning travel-route and shopping. Services are rendered to the
visually-challenged, hearing impaired individuals. Several help points
are located, as are reserved seating arrangements.
Parking options – There are some recognized and safe
car parks in and around the airport.
Extra information - Arriving and departing passengers are
segregated at Pier 1, Gates 100-109. This is done to identify all
UK and Ireland passengers arriving into and departing from the United
Kingdom. A video image of all arriving passengers is recorded to avoid
confusion. The process effectively shortens the time taken to come
directly to the airport, as it avoids the terminal building.
Leaving from Gatwick airport – Numerous options
are available in form of Bus/Coach services from both the terminals.
A well-connected train network ensures that passengers can leave for
almost any destination in the country. A special train service known
as Gatwick Express takes the passengers to London Victoria in under
30 minutes.

Essentials - Currency exchange can be done by using
the Currency pre-order and pick up services at the airport. Exchange rates
for over 50 currencies are at competitive rates. The services are also available
in both terminals.
