Location –
Nottingham East Midlands Airport is located near Castle
Donington in Leicestershire. It lies sandwiched between the cities of Derby,
Leicester and Nottingham. All these cities are within a 30 mile radius of
the airfield.
Know your Airport - East Midlands
International Airport is a major regional airport with excellent
modern facilities. Its proximity to the motorway network is a bonus. With

Terminals
– The East Midlands airport terminal was opened
initially with the airport in the 1970s. over the years it has undergone
its own share of development like the rest of the airport including
a £3 million extension opened by Princess Anne in 1985. Nowadays
over 4 million passengers pass through the terminal every year.
Transit systems – No automated transit system is available
in East Midlands Airport. But travelers can use stair-cases
and elevators are reliable transit systems in operation. Since there
is no other terminal, the system has been left simple, to facilitate
quick check-ins and check-outs.
Inside the terminals – There is an Information Desk,
in the Main Terminal Building. This is open for 24 hours a day catering
to passenger enquiries. The check-in times for both International
flights and European flights is 2 hours prior to departure. For domestic
flights, the time is just an hour before departure. Boarding generally
begins around 45 minutes before departure.
Safety - Enhanced security measures means that check-ins
can take longer than it used to at East Midlands. It is advised that
you arrive at the airport in plenty of time. It is advised that one
should always check the exact hand luggage allowance with particular
airline before packing. Some items like scissors, blades, knives,
needles and even pool cues/darts are not allowed while traveling.
The security troops have strict policies for cylinders, magnets, fire-lighters,
poisons and radioactive materials. The airport has been spared of

games zone is situated in the Terminal and there is an indoor aircraft
viewing balcony in some cafes. All the eateries at the airport especially
have high chairs and bottle warming service. Children's meals and
party packs are also available. The child friendly areas in bars come
with high chairs and strict regulation on smoking. A range of shops
are available in the main terminal and international departures area.
These offer products on health and beauty, good books and great music,
and funny toys. The shops are all duty free. A wide selection of restaurants,
takeaways and snack options are available on the first floor. |

Special service
– Passengers who hold a disabled badge may park in the short
stay car park at the relevant medium or long stay prices. East
Midlands airport looks after the needs of the disabled travelers
with a keen eye. We have dedicated spaces a short distance from the
terminal and porters are also available. A pick-up area is provided
on the terminal front for the collection of disabled passengers. Wheel-chairs
are also available.
Parking options – There are off airport and on airport
parking option. Valet service is available as per request. The on
airport East Midlands car parks are only a short
distance from the terminal building. But passengers can avail of the
free transfer shuttle buses from car parks. These shuttle buses drop
the passengers off at the terminal building. For medium to long stay
parking, the minimum stay is for 4 days. For longer durations, the
long-stay parking options are the perfect choice. They are suitable
for a city break or for a ten day holiday.
Extra information - The East Midlands International
airport has one of the most beautiful sights on offer at the Aeropark.
It is located to the North West corner of the airport and has a number
of static aircraft on display. For the travelers interested in old
aeroplanes and carriers, the Aeropark is a boon. The impressive list

can also be seen at this place. Even a Vampire under restoration is
displayed for the prying eyes of aeroplane-lovers.
Leaving from East Midlands airport – The airport
has first-rate connections to the motorway network due to its proximity
to the M1 and M42 motorways. It also is within easy reach of the major
population centers of the midlands. However travelers looking for
access by train might be a tad disappointed. The closest railway station
is Long Eaton. The Airline Shuttle service links the airport directly
Nottingham, Leicester and in a roundabout way to Derby. The train
operator is Midland Mainline. They are building a new railway station
East Midlands Parkway closer to the airport. It will
also have a link with the shuttle bus service.

Essentials - There is an International Currency
Exchange center available in the departures and arrivals areas. There is
an Information Desk located in the main terminal and is open 24 hours. Several
car hire companies are available in the arrivals area.
