Aberdeen Airport is the third largest international airport
in Scotland. In terms of size in the whole of United Kingdom, Aberdeen Airport
ranks number eighth. Aberdeen airport is situated in Dyce, which is approximately
7 miles north of Aberdeen city centre. From the city centre, one can reach
the airport by simply tagging along A96 road towards Inverness.

was initially built in 1934 to connect Northern Islands of Scotland with
London. It is now owned by BAA plc, the same organization which owns the
biggest airports in United Kingdom namely Gatwick, London, and Heathrow
etc. This emphasizes the importance of the airport in Scotland and its significance
in Pan-British aviation. According to latest numbers, in 2004 the airport
handled over 2.7 million passengers. Aberdeen Airport functions not only
as the airport but also as the main heliport catering to the United Kingdom's
burgeoning offshore oil industry.

Terminals
– The Aberdeen airport has a single passenger
terminal. This terminal caters to the needs of both scheduled as well
as chartered holiday flights. In addition to the airport terminal,
there are 2 more terminals dedicated to North Sea helicopter operations.
These heliport terminals are used by various helicopter service providers
as we mentioned earlier. There is also a small terminal used primarily
for oil company charter flights onto Aberdeen.
Transit systems – There are no transit systems from
inside the terminal as passengers of both British nationality and
EU nationals can walk a short distance to outside the terminal.
Inside the terminals – As you enter the Main terminal
building at the airport, check-in is located on the left side of the
ground floor public space. If you are leaving the airport, then it
will be situated at right side. Please see your airline ticket for
advice on check-in times. Please remember as in other international
airports, Aberdeen asks its passengers on European flights, to arrive
2 hours before departure. For flights to UK and Ireland, you should
be present within one hour prior to departure. For those going on
vacation on charter flights, it will be of great help to the airport
authority and customs if you were to arrive at least a couple of hours
before stipulated departure. Aberdeen airport has
a very efficient arrangement called Self service check-in, which allows
self service check-in both online and kiosk to some passengers departing
from Aberdeen. Please confirm whether it is applicable to your airline
and destination. There are television monitors which list flight departures
for your destination, boarding time and also gate number. Boarding
begins roughly 45 minutes before departure.

measures are fine tuned keeping in mind the likes & dislikes of
the travelers. Passengers are advised to be patient if they have to
queue at the check-in desks and security control. The presence of
armed police during the security checks is to ensure the safety of
all passengers. The airport staff is on alert for any unattended packages
or bags. Meta archways are built to combat the threats to your lives
like terrorism and hijacking. Small items like jackets & coats,
handbags, cameras, mobile phones, computers, calculators, keys, coins,
etc are required to be passed through the x-ray machine. There archway
metal detectors and hand search facilities at the airport are for
travelers who may have problems with the pre-described methods. Items
like scissors, razor blades, household cutlery, tools, darts, and
flammable matter etc. are strictly contraband. Instruments containing
mercury & magnets and radioactive materials are to be strictly
avoided during boarding. On certain routes from Aberdeen airport,

guidelines.

to keep them occupied in a single place. For toddlers or ones smaller
than them. Aberdeen airport has many baby-care units
